What are the 10 Thirumana Poruthams?
In Tamil astrology, 10 Poruthams are checked from the bride's and groom's stars before marriage. Each one stands for a different part of married life.
Stands for the couple's health, long life and day-to-day harmony.
Shows whether the two temperaments match. Stars are grouped into three Ganams: Deva, Manusha and Rakshasa.
Stands for children, family growth and prosperity.
Stands for the wife's well-being, happiness and a long married life.
Stands for physical and intimate compatibility. Each star has an animal symbol.
Looks at the relationship between the two rasis. Stands for family harmony and continuing the family line.
Checks whether the planets ruling the two rasis are friendly. Stands for understanding and friendship between the couple.
Stands for mutual attraction and affection.
Considered the most important of the 10. Stands for the strength of the marriage bond and the husband's long life. If both stars fall in the same Rajju, it is generally treated as not matching.
Some star pairs are considered to obstruct each other (Vedhai). No Vedhai means fewer obstacles in married life.
Star matching or full horoscope matching?
Star + Rasi only: best when the birth time isn't known, or for a quick first check while looking at alliances. The 10 Poruthams are worked out from the star and rasi.
Full birth details: use this when you know the date, time and place of birth. Both complete horoscopes are calculated, which makes it the better choice for an important decision like marriage.

How many Poruthams are needed for marriage?
Traditionally, at least 6 out of 10 is considered good. But the key Poruthams such as Rajju, and both full horoscopes, matter more than the count alone.
Can I check Porutham without the birth time?
Yes. Choose "Star + Rasi only" and check all 10 Poruthams using the bride's and groom's star and rasi.
Can we marry if Rajju Porutham doesn't match?
Rajju is considered the most important Porutham. Some horoscope combinations have exceptions, so it is best to ask an astrologer with both full horoscopes before deciding.
Is Sevvai Dosham checked in Porutham?
Sevvai Dosham is not based on the star. It depends on where Mars sits in the full horoscope, so it needs the date, time and place of birth.
Is online Porutham matching accurate?
Star matching follows fixed traditional rules, so the calculation itself is reliable. For a marriage decision, it is still best to have an astrologer look at both full horoscopes.
